Leeds armory. An amazing place with six floors and wonderful displays from all over the world. You could easily spend a day here but we just had an hour and a half. WW II museum of English life during this time. Very interesting. See how much they were rationed. 4 ounce of bacon per week for example. People are very resilient and adaptable. It was very tough times.

Criccieth Castle is a ruined thirteenth-century castle in Criccieth, Gwynedd, Wales. It is located on a rocky headland overlooking Tremadog Bay and consists of an inner ward almost surrounded by an outer ward.

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Gwyned

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. The first fortification on the site was a motte-and-bailey castle built in the late 11th century, which King Edward I of England began to replace with the current stone structure in 1283. The castle and town established by Edward acted as the administrative centre of north Wales.

Amazing structure, and well preserved. Thank you to my host: Sensei Tim Hamilton for his amazing hospitality. A wonderful seminar on Saturday and Sunday. Smaller training classes, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Then we leave Wales to head to Leeds for a large seminar Friday Saturday Sunday.

Narita-san (成田山 “Narita mountain”) Shins

Narita-san (成田山 “Narita mountain”) Shinshō-ji (新勝寺 “New victory temple”) is a Shingon Buddhist temple located in central Narita, Chiba, Japan. It was founded in 940 by Kanchō Daisōjō, a disciple of Kōbō Daishi. It is a lead temple in the Chisan branch (Chisan-ha 智山派) of New Shingon (Shingi Shingon 新義真言宗), includes a large complex of buildings and grounds, and is one of the best-known temples in the Kantō region. It is dedicated to Ācala (Japanese: Fudō myōō (“Unmovable Wisdom King”)) who is usually depicted holding a sword and rope and surrounded by flames.

Standing in the foothills of the eastern hills, Nanzen-ji Temple is one of Kyoto’s most important temples. Its massive front gate drives this point home yet the structures and gardens on the grounds contain much that is sublime and beautiful.

It is the head temple of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism, and although it was originally built as an Imperial villa in 1264, it is famous for its gardens.

Ryoanji temple home of a famous rock garden Was established in 1450 by one of the deputies to the Ashikaga Shogun. Previously been a small villa, but was transformed into a temple. It was destroyed by fire during the Onin wars only two decades later. It was rebuilt in 1499 with the addition of the rock guard.

Kinkakuji or the golden pavilion is actually a pagoda made to house the secret relics of Buddha. This is the branch of the Rinzai sector of Zen. And as a designated UNESCO world, Heritage site.

During the Kamakura Period (1185–1333) The site was a villa of an aristocrat, however during the Muromachi Period (1392–1573) It caught the attention of the third Ashikage shogun who took over the site and built his own villa. It was after his death that the village was turned to a temple.

The famous Tori gate of the Itsukushima Shrine. Founded in 1168 by Taira no Kiyomori, the most powerful man in Japan at the end of the Heian Era. Many aristocrats and emperors slowly started to visit the site. After the Taira Clan lost power, the Genji clan started to rule and patronized the shrine as well. The Ashikage shoguns and others of the Muromachi period also made a regular pilgrimages.

Located just off the coast near Hiroshima. A few pictures of the Hiroshima dome remind us of the horrors of nuclear war. The Hiroshima, peace memorial and museum are well worth the visit.

Matsuyama castle, was built in 1602, and is one of the 12 original castles found in Japan. He’s also one of the most complex and interestingly design castles in the country. It’s located at the top of Mount Katsuyama Overlooks the city and the Seto Island Sea. it also has 200 cherry trees which bloom in late March.
